REHOBOTH, Mass. (WPRI) - A local church is calling for tents -- to send to disaster-torn Haiti.
Community Covenant Church started a week-long tent drive Sunday. They say the people of Haiti who lost their homes in the earthquake badly need temporary housing -- and tents can help the homeless keep out the rainy season.
"The latest estimates I've seen is there's 1.2 million people without any shelter, and so tents are a temporary means but just to help people get through until some of the infrastructure can be rebuilt," said one of the church's elders, Scott Martin.
Donors who have tents they're not using are also asked to contribute $10 with each tent -- to help pay for shipping down to Haiti.
If you'd like to donate, you can get more information at the church's website.
