BOSTON (AP) - Today (Wednesday) is deadline for registering to vote in next month's primary election to replace Edward M. Kennedy in the U.S. Senate.
The primary is on Dec. 8.
Secretary of State William Galvin says state law requires residents to register at least 20 days before an election.
Galvin says in a statement that registrar offices in most Massachusetts communities are open from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. today.
Voter registration offices in towns with fewer than 1,500 residents are open from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and again from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Those who register for the primary are automatically eligible to vote in the Jan. 19 Senate election.
Kennedy died on August 25 of brain cancer.
