PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) - The Providence Plan is awarded a $3.7 million American Recovery and Reinvestment Act grant, allowing the organization's Building Futures Initiative to launch an Energy Training Partnership.

Building Futures plans to use this grant to prepare about 1,600 Rhode Islanders for careers in energy efficient-construction and renewable-power industries.

In addition to creating green jobs, this funding will help boost the state's construction and manufacturing industries.

The group plans to renovate an old mill on Manton Ave. in Providence to create a training facility.

Building Futures is one of only 24 programs across the country to receive money from this round of grants from the Department of Labor.
