PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) - The Rhode Island House Finance Committee met Thursday to analyze Governor Lincoln Chafee's $7-billion dollar budget proposal.
The committee will meet for three weeks and will discuss several key issues in the state. On Thursday they spoke of Governor Chafee's proposal to do away with the state's film tax credit.
However, there were those in favor of keeping the state's $15-million dollar film and television credit at Thursday's meeting.
"If there's no film tax credit here, nobody's coming to Rhode Island," said filmmaker Michale Corrente.
Corrente is in favor of the tax credit and also would like to see it rise to $25-million dollars.
In addition, the R.I. DMV supports charging drivers $50-dollars for bounced checks and the Poverty Institute is in favor of the Governor's idea to charge a sales tax for items not now-taxed.
