PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) - Voters hit the polls Tuesday in what is poised to be one of the most important elections in recent history.
The most hotly contested and talked-about race in Rhode Island is the one for the governor’s seat. Four lead candidates are seeking the state’s top job: Democrat Frank Caprio, Republican John Robitaille, Independent Lincoln Chafee, and Moderate Ken Block.
Monday night the candidates were busy drumming up last-minute support, and they cast their own votes at 7 a.m. Tuesday.
In the race to replace Patrick Kennedy, Democrat David Cicilline is battling Republican John Loughlin for the U.S. House District 1 seat.
For the U.S. House District 2 seat, incumbent Democrat Jim Langevin is challenged by Republican Mark Zaccaria and Independent John Matson.
