PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) - Several races from Tuesday's Rhode Island primary are headed to recounts, after extremely close margins of victory.
The most notable case is the House District 58 race between State Representative William San Bento and Democratic challenger Carlos Tobon.
San Bento, A 20-year incumbent, is leading by just three votes, but three provisional ballots have yet to be counted.
"At the end of the day I told all my volunteers that I was very proud that they were here with me," San Bento said, "They all worked so hard and whatever the end result was, that was it. Either I'd still be there or be retired."
Tobon is a political newcomer, who received the support of General Treasurer Gina Raimondo.
"I think this is one of those cases where people will see that every vote does count," Tobon said, "Here I am losing by three votes."
The provisional ballots will be counted Monday, and all of the other ballots will be recounted at the board of elections.
