Candidates in RI face filing deadline

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) -- Candidates for public office in Rhode Island must file paperwork soon to be eligible to appear on this year's ballot.
Secretary of State Ralph Mollis says candidates need to file their declaration of candidacy forms by the end of the day Wednesday.

Candidates for the U.S. House of Representatives and U.S. Senate and those hoping to be electors for independent presidential candidates must submit their declarations to the secretary of state's election office. Candidates for the state's General Assembly or local government positions should file with their local board of canvassers.
A list of those who have declared their intent to run will be posted on the secretary of state's website beginning Tuesday.
This year's statewide primary is Sept. 11 and the general election is Nov. 6.
