PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP/WPRI) — Gov. Lincoln Chafee has hinted that the suspended chief executive of the Rhode Island Public Transit Authority may be replaced.
The Providence Journal reports that Chafee said in an interview he's a fan of Charles Odimgbe. But he added that change is sometimes beneficial.
Asked if there will be a change at the transit agency, the governor said, "We'll see."
Chafee assigned state police to the agency in August after Odimgbe discovered that a security camera had been covered up in an area where cash bus fares are handled.
Odimgbe was placed on paid administrative leave Aug. 29. He has said he supports an investigation into security breaches and believes he will be reinstated.
Odimgbe was given RIPTA's top job, along with a six-figure salary, in November of 2010.
