PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) – With less than a week until the candidates face-off in a much-anticipated debate, one candidate is claiming another committed voter fraud.

The accusations, made by Democratic congressional candidate Anthony Gemma, say that competitor David Cicilline (D) has a history of padding his ballot box.

Eyewitness News spoke to our Political Analyst, Joe Fleming. He believes the claim “has a lot of hoop-di-do about this, but in the end, it was a lot of accusations. It really wasn’t a lot of ‘here’s the proof, here’s the affidavit’ … he just said what they said.”

So far, no evidence has been presented to suggest there is any truth behind the alleged fraud. Fleming says, “If you’re saying that someone is committing voter fraud, you need to have the proof.” According to him, it is only Gemma’s word against Cicilline’s. It would be more believable if the so-called fake voters and investigators came forward.

In terms of whether or not this will help his campaign, our Political Analyst thinks Gemma is not doing himself any favors. Fleming believes more information will come out before next Tuesday’s Congressional Primary Debate.
