Political heavyweights drum up support

Candidates try to sway voters before Election Day

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) - Some political heavyweights will be campaigning in Rhode Island one day before voters head to the polls.

Rhode Island Democrats crowded Modern Diner in Pawtucket on Monday, serving up a side of politics with the usual bacon and eggs.

'You always run as if you're one behind. You always do that, and when you're 20 up or 20 behind, you never change the way you run. This is a job interview," said Secretary of State Ralph Mollis.

Candidates will be criss-crossing the state, in an effort to energize their organization and get their campaign workers to gather all the last minute support they can.

"There's literally thousands of people that have volunteered on the campaign and what they are doing is they are making phone calls, they are going door-to-door," said RI Gubernatorial candidate Frank Caprio.

New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg will be in the Ocean State to garner support for independent gubernatorial candidate Lincoln Chafee.

Bloomberg endorsed Chafee back in September.

Meanwhile, former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney will try to drum up support for two Republican candidates.

Romney will stump for Gubernatorial candidate John Robitaille and Congressional candidate John Loughlin.
