FALL RIVER, MASS. (WPRI) - Members of the Fall River Police Department participated in "Operation Blue Thunder" over the weekend, in an effort to crack down on crime in the city .
Operation Blue Thunder is a form of policing that targets high-crime areas of the city. Officers make sweeping arrests of those wanted on outstanding warrants.
More than 50 police officers volunteered for the operation. Members of the Massachusetts State Police Warrants Apprehension Unit , the Drug Enforcement Agency , as well as the Bureau of Alchohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives worked on Operation Blue Thunder as well.
Operation Blue Thunder resulted in more than 50 arrests. The operation also resulted in the seizure of illegal firearms, drugs, cars and cash.
Fall River Mayor Will Flanagan will commend the Police Department for their work, and release more information about Operation Blue Thunder during a news conference on Monday afternoon.
