PAWTUCKET, R.I. (WPRI) - Pawtucket fire crews rushed to the scene of a fire that destroyed part of a home on West Ave. Monday morning.
The call came in around 8:45 a.m., when smoke could be seen coming from the third floor of a home at 289 West Ave.
According to fire officials, the flames started in a child's bedroom. That floor was destroyed, while the rest of the house, including a hair salon on the first floor, was deemed uninhabitable.
"Well, I'm devastated that this happened. I've been here since 1991 and nothing ever happened. I was shocked," said owner Fifi Hronis.
Everyone made it out of the building safely, including 2 dogs. The Rhode Island Chapter of the American Red Cross is assisting six or seven people displaced by the incident.
