PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Former Rhode Island gubernatorial candidate Myrth York says she won't run for mayor of Providence.
York announced her decision Wednesday as she threw her support behind mayoral candidate Angel Taveras. Taveras has asked York to be his campaign chair.
She said at a news conference Wednesday that Taveras is a good role model for children and is part of a new generation of leaders.
York is a three-time Democratic gubernatorial candidate.
She most recently ran in 2002 against Republican Don Carcieri, who won the election.
Other Democratic candidates for mayor include House Finance Committee chairman Steven Costantino and City Councilman John Lombardi.
