MIDDLETOWN, R.I. (WPRI) - Hundreds of people took the plunge into the sea in Middletown for Special Olympics Rhode Island this weekend.

Participants ranged from high school hockey teams to police department teams.

Even Eyewitness News meteorologists Tony Petrarca and Pete Mangione and Rhode Show co-host Ben Hague took part in the plunge.

Eyewitness News is one of the proud sponsors of the "Third Annual Torch Run Plunge" at Easton Beach.

Sunday's event raised $33,000 for the Special Olympics.
