WRENTHAM, Mass. (AP/WPRI) - The state has stepped in to reverse a decision by a Massachusetts town's housing authority that barred residents from flying U.S. flags outside their homes.
An unsigned letter taped to residents' door Wednesday said the move was made after a tenant made "repeated" complaints to the state housing department over the Fourth of July holiday.
"There have been so many wars so many kids killed, they died for flag," said one resident.
Complex tenant Blanche Slaney says nothing could convince her to remove her flag.
"It means a lot I love my flag, I love my country."
The Housing Authority issued a statement, "We were not aware of this decision when it was made, and it was a mistake that is being corrected immediately."
