NORTH ATTLEBORO, Mass. (WPRI) - Police in North Attleboro have a woman in custody after she drove her car into her boyfriend's parked car in a parking lot.
26-year-old Nakiea Cherry of Chelsea, Mass. drove her car into her boyfriend's while he was in it on Thursday morning at Target in North Attleboro.
Cherry crashed it head-on with her 29-year-old boyfriend because she believed he was cheating on her, police said.
The boyfriend was not alone in the car at the time of the crash, but neither he nor his two passengers were seriously injured. However, due to the damage the car sustained, a towing company had to be called to remove it from the parking lot.
Cherry was arrested and ordered held in jail on $1,500 cash bail after pleading innocent Friday in Attleboro District Court to three count of assault by means of a dangerous weapon, two counts of malicious destruction and three other related charges.
Her lawyer said Cherry "denies intentionally driving into the car...she was just hoping to scare him. She cut the wheel a little to late. She had no intention to hurt him."
During her bail hearing, Cherry told police she and her boyfriend had a domestic dispute the night before she drove into his car.
The Assistant District Attorney in Attleboro noted during that hearing that Cherry has a record of previous assaults and also failed to make court appearances and faced miscellaneous charges in multiple states.
She has been ordered to wear a GPS device before she can be released from jail and is due back in court on December 23rd.
