WAREHAM, MASS. (WPRI) - Massachusetts State Police say they're still investigating a tragic accident that has taken the life of a Wareham teenager.
On Sunday night, 18-year-old Kourtney Viera was struck and killed on Interstate 195 East in nearby Marion, Mass . State Police say Viera had gotten out of her car after it ran out of gas. Police say she was struck by a mini-van in the right travel lane. Viera was taken to Tobey Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
At this time, the driver of the minvan has not been charged in connection with the accident.
Viera's family has asked to grieve privately. But one woman who knows the teen's family tells Eyewitness News that her death is a heartbreaking loss for the family and the community.
Kourtney Viera's friends have set up a facebook page in her memory.
