SOMERSET, Mass. (WPRI) - Somerset police arrested a 71-year-old man for selling prescription drugs.

Investigators received tips that the suspect, Alvaro Affonso, was selling the drugs, including oxycodone, from his apartment at John F. Kennedy Terrace, an elderly housing complex.

When asked about the allegations, Affonso denied the charges.

“I don't care what they are saying. It’s not true, that is all I have to say,” Affonso said."We will find out when it comes into court. An I am to speak to no one until I talk to my attorney."

When learning of the charges, neighbor Ellen Mockas said she was “surprised, we never had anything like that around here. You never know.”

Police arrested Affonso at the elderly housing complex Friday after an investigation which spanned several months.

They said it started with an anonymous tip from a resident who complained people were constantly in and out of his apartment.

Inside Affonso's apartment, police said they discovered prescription drugs including oxycodone and wads of cash.

Residents said they always suspected something was going on in Affonso's apartment, but didn't know what.

“I hope they give him what he deserves,” said resident Paul Mockas “This is one heck of a place to business.”
