SEEKONK, Mass. (WPRI) - The driver of a tractor trailer that crashed into a landmark restaurant, triggering a massive fire which ultimately destroyed the Old Grist Mill Tavern, has been cleared of any wrongdoing.
Investigators say there is no evidence the truck's operator was speeding or otherwise impaired.
A citation has been issued to the truck packing company.
Officials say Chiquita Fresh North America, LLC failed to prevent cargo shifting because it used no spacers between pallets and walls inside the shipping container.
The driver of the tractor trailer was hauling a load of bananas back on June 24, when it rolled over hitting a gas main and sparking a fire.
