REHOBOTH, Mass. (WPRI) - Five people are recovering from a carbon monoxide leak Wednesday night on Homestead Avenue in Rehoboth.
Eyewitness News has learned that three children and two adults were taken to the hospital after firefighters found high levels of carbon monoxide in their home.
Chief Robert Pray said, "They change their batteries and call the oil burner man first. The problem is most CO detectors that go off go off for a reason."
Firefighters believe the CO came from the fireplace and furnace.
Deputy Chief John Parker Jr. said, "The boiler room wasn't that well vented so the CO actually gets drawn out back into the chimney into the house. Plus they had a fire place in one end of the building they have a pit where they keep the ashes. Well, the ashes will stay in there and produce Carbon Monoxide."
