NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WPRI) - A 77-year-old grandmother says she is lucky to be alive after being struck by a bus.
Dorothy Lopes told Eyewitness News she was walking in the parking lot of a New Bedford Stop and Shop when she was hit.
"It seemed to be coming at a pretty fast clip and before I knew it, I was airborne", Lopes said.
Lopes was taken to a nearby hospital where she received six staples in her head.
"I consider myself blessed. One or two more inches in either direction I could have been very seriously hurt", Lopes stated.
The 77-year-old said this isn't the first time buses have been going too fast in that particular parking lot
"I think its irresponsible because there are children in this parking lot and elderly people, there are physically impaired people", said Lopes.
Lopes also said the bus company has not called her to check and see if she's recovering.
