Man shot and killed in New Bedford

31 year-old man killed late Friday night

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WPRI) -- Police in New Bedford are investigating a homicide.

A 911 call came in to police at about 10:15pm Friday indicating that a man had been shot near the intersection of Cove Street and Rodney French Boulevard.

Police say they quickly located the victim and rescue crews rushed him to St. Luke's Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.  He has been identified as 31 year-old Julio Barbosa of New Bedford.

The Bristol County District Attorney's office is coordinating the investigation and no further information was made available Saturday morning.

Anyone who witnessed the shooting or has any other information about it is asked to call the New Bedford Police Department at 508-991-6300, or via the District Attorney's anonymous text-a-tip service by logging on to www.tipsubmit.com or texting "CALL50" to 274637 (CRIMES).
