MIDDLEBORO, Mass. (WPRI) - People caught cursing in public in Middleboro may have to put more than just a coin in the swear jar, if the town's police chief has his way.

Chief Bruce Gates tells WBZ that public swearing is rampant in the town, and he wants to start fining potty mouths $20.

The town already has long-standing law against pubic swearing, but Gates says it's rarely enforced.

Gates plans to propose the fines at a town meeting in June.
