Charged with assaulting his father before he died

WOBURN, Mass. (AP) - The brother of figure skater Nancy Kerrigan, charged with assaulting his father shortly before he died, has been released on bail.

Mark Kerrigan was brought to the Billerica House of Correction Tuesday after completing a psychiatric evaluation at Bridgewater State Hospital. He posted his $10,000 bail Wednesday morning in Woburn District Court.

A family spokesman declined to comment.

Last week, Kerrigan's family said that they planned to post his bail. A judge ruled he can go back to live with his mother in the family's Stoneham home, where the alleged assault took place.

Seventy-year-old Daniel Kerrigan died last month after a fight with his son.

Prosecutors charged his 45-year-old son with assault and have said they are deciding whether to upgrade the charge.
