SWANSEA, Mass., (WPRI) - Rescue crews rushed to the scene of a crash involving an ambulance and 2 cars.

The accident happened on Route 6 in Swansea on Thursday evening, near the McDonalds restaurant.

"All I heard was a big bang, and I looked over and the car had already hit the other cars," said Grace Soares, who witnessed the scene Thursday.

Firefighters tell Eyewitness News 4 people were transported to local hospitals, 3 with serious injuries.

Officials say they believe the driver of one car lost control and hit the ambulance, which was empty at the time.

Eyewitnesses say the impact sent the ambulance into a second car.

"From the corner of my eye, I just seen it a car, flying up," said eyewitness Peter Raposo, "and I happened to look over and it was just flying up the embankment like I don't even know where that car came from and how it didn't bottom out on the sidewalk."

Two ambulance employees were taken to the hospital as a precaution, according to Thomas Carol, Alert Ambulance President.
