NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WPRI) - A New Bedford mill originally built in 1903 will be turned into a new housing development.

On Friday, Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick and New Bedford Mayor Scott Lang will announce that the Manomet Mills on Riverside Avenue will be converted to mixed income housing for people 55-years-old and older.

The new construction project will be carried out in two phases. Phase I will create 76 new units in the building and Phase II promises to create about 75 additional ones.

Gov. Patrick and Mayor Lang will also announce that the project will create a plethora of job opportunities during the construction, creating openings for almost 450 positions.

A formal announcement is scheduled to be made Friday afternoon at the Cliftex Lofts in New Bedford.

Federal, state, and city funds all contributed to making the conversion of the building into housing units.
