No more bets: Foxboro casino is over

Kraft, Wynn formally withdraw development plan

FOXBORO, Mass. (WPRI) -- The Kraft Group and Wynn Resorts rolled the dice on a plan for a casino in Foxboro, and crapped out. This week's town election in Foxboro resoundingly voted in two town selectmen board members who were against the casino plan -- and so it became essentially a referendum on a casino venue.

Tuesday afternoon, the Kraft Group and Wynn Resorts made it official, announcing they were essentially taking their chips and cashing out of the casino idea.

"We have the greatest respect for Steve Wynn, his team and his business model, and believe this unique opportunity was worthy of a chance to be heard," once the state passed gaming legislation, the Kraft Group said in a statement. They respected the "collective voice" of the Foxboro residents, and said they're now suspending efforts to develop a destination resort.

Wynn, in turn, said in a statement they'd been trying to "communicate the benefits of a proposed destination resort in Foxboro," and respected the outcome of the election. Wynn also tipped the hat of mutual admiration to the Kraft Group over the campaign efforts.
