FALL RIVER, Mass. (WPRI) - The U.S. Coast Guard has once again blocked plans for a liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal in Fall River.
On Friday, the Coast Guard denied an appeal by Weaver's Cove Energy, upholding previous decisions handed down in 2007 and 2008.
The project has drawn strong opposition from neighbors and politicians, who say the LNG tankers passing through local waters would pose a serious risk to the public.
A spokesperson for Weaver's Cove Energy says Friday's ruling will not stop the company from moving ahead with the project.
Rhode Island's entire Congressional delegation released a joint statement Friday applauding the Coast Guard's decision.
