ATTLEBORO, Mass. (WPRI) - A former police sergeant is being criticized for issuing several firearm licenses to "unqualified and potentially dangerous people."
The Attleboro Sun Chronicle reports that Sgt. Michael McDonnell issued at least a dozen licenses to those who were ineligible because they were guilty of felonies or had mental health or drug and alcohol problem.
One of those licenses, for a machine gun, went to a man who had undergone alcohol abuse treatment.
An internal investigation revealed that McDonnell violated Massachusetts state law.
McDonnell was not penalized because he retired in November before the investigation ended.
No Charges have been filed.
