CHATHAM, Mass. (WPRI) - A Cape Cod beach was closed to swimmers indefinitely on Friday, after three more great white sharks were spotted close to shore.
One of the sharks was only one hundred yards from a party on the beach, according to the Boston Globe. The shark was estimated at about 14-feet-long and 1,500 pounds.
Chatham's South Beach is now off-limits to swimmers as a result. It is located just south of the popular Lighthouse Beach.
It is the latest in a series of shark sightings off Chatham this summer, including several this week alone.
The State Division of Marine Fisheries says the sharks are likely being attracted to seals swimming close to the shore.
