NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WPRI) -- There was an unexpected arrival at the Buttonwood Park Zoo Wednesday.

The zoo's beavers, which were originally thought to be two males, were in fact a male and a female, and gave birth to a litter of babies.

Mayor Jon Mitchell joined the zoo staff and members of the Buttonwood Park Zoo Society to welcome the baby beavers.

The newborns will be at the Buttonwood Park Zoo, located at 425 Hawthorn St. in New Bedford, and are welcoming visitors.
