Hot weather damages road in Attleboro

High temps melt crack sealant, crews spread sand

ATTLEBORO, MASS. (WPRI) -- The recent hot weather has caused some problems for drivers in Attleboro.

Attleboro Police tell Eyewitness News that city crews had to put down sand on Pleasant Street after high temperatures caused crack filler material to turn sticky and pull up pavement.

The Sun Chronicle reports that Public Works Superintendent John Clover said he'd never seen crack sealing melt before, and that several other roads held up to the heat without problems.

Police say they expect repair work to get underway next week with the help of cooler temperatures.  Until then, sand will help keep the filler from spreading and sticking to tires.
