BOSTON (AP) - House Speaker Robert DeLeo says there's no guarantee that a bill allowing expanding gambling in Massachusetts will pass this year.
DeLeo told reporters differences remain between House and Senate negotiators on compromise casino legislation.
But DeLeo said legislators are working diligently to get a deal done and said it's a good sign that they continue to talk.
After meeting behind closed doors for several hours Monday without reaching a deal, an aide to DeLeo said negotiations will continue Tuesday.
The House passed a plan calling for two resort-style casinos and slots at the state's four race tracks.
The Senate plan called for three resort-style casinos, but no track slots.
Lawmakers have until the end of the legislative session on July 31 to get a bill to Gov. Deval Patrick.
