PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Ten Providence strip clubs have signed a pledge promising not to knowingly hire anyone under 18.

Board of Licenses Chairman Andrew Annaldo distributed the pledge, even though he acknoweldged it is probably not legally binding.

The issue of underage strippers came to light when a 16-year-old runaway told police that she worked as a stripper at a city club. Police investigated but could not find any underage workers at any local club.

The Providence Journal then reported that there is no state law that prohibits anyone under 18 from working at a strip club.

Mayor David Cicilline has issued an executive order that prohibits the license board from giving an adult entertainment license to establishments that employ anyone younger than 18.
