MIDDLETOWN, R.I. (WPRI) - Town officials said Thursday they will close a section of the Second Beach to swimming on Saturday and Sunday.
Officials said the partial closure is a result of high surf Hurricane Bill could bring. The west end of Sachuest Beach, commonly known as the “Surfer’s End,” will only be open to surfers in order to avoid contact with swimmers.
The remainder of Second Beach - also known as Sachuest Town
Beach - will be open for swimming along with the Town Beach and
Third Beach. Lifeguards and police will be at the beach to
direct swimmers and surfers where they can go in the water.
