PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) - Organizers of the Rhode Island Tea Party have agreed to remove the Gaspee Days name from an upcoming protest.

The group was using the Gaspee Days name to promote a rally at the State House. Protesters thought linking their cause to Gaspee Days, which celebrates the tale of a Rhode Island Revolutionary War group, was the perfect tie in.

However, the committee that organizes Gaspee Days says it never gave permission for its name to be used. It was also concerned about appearing to be tied to the activist group.

Organizers with the Rhode Island Tea Party say the group has no legal claim to the name. However, they decided to change the name of their upcoming rally as a show of good faith.
