PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) - Ambulance drivers in Providence are now equipped with a machine that could help prevent the spread of the H1N1 flu virus, and other infectious diseases.
New England Ambulance and the Providence Emergency Management Agency gave a demonstration of the Micro-Mist Generator Thursday morning at PEMA headquarters.
The machine is designed to quickly decontaminate enclosed spaces, preventing the spread of infectious disease. It releases micro-particles that reach virtually every surface exposed to air.
"We are always searching for ways to enhance our emergency response efforts, especially as health officials work to halt the spread of the H1N1 virus," said PEMA Director Peter T. Gaynor. "This new technology will give our first responders the tools the need to act quickly and effectively to protect our residents from the spread of infectious diseases."
