Prov. couple stranded in the Bahamas

Cruise ship left them on the island

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) - A Providence couple says their dream vacation turned into a travel nightmare, when the Carnival cruise they were traveling on, left them stranded in the Bahamas.

Neila and Carlos Marquez knew they only had a few hours on the island when their ship dropped them off.

They say the itinerary said the boat left at 5:00. They were back to the dock by 3:30, but the boat was gone.

It was only then that they learned the departure time had changed from 5:00 to 2:00.

Their son, who did make it on the boat, says an announcement was made early that morning, when Neila and Carlos were asleep.

It was too expensive to fly and meet the ship in the Virgin Islands, so the couple headed home, with only a debit card and the clothes on their back.

The trip was booked through Cruise Brothers.

Their general manager released the following statement, " Cruise Brothers is sorry that this would happen to any of our passengers. But it is up to the passengers to make sure they're on the ship on time. If we find out there was a lapse in communication we will try to get them reimbursed."

Cruise brothers says they've been in touch with Carnival and will learn more after the ship docks this weekend.
