PORTSMOUTH, R.I. (WPRI) - In the wake of a 12-year-old girl's death in Portsmouth, counselors were being made available to her classmates at St. Philomena School Wednesday, according to Principal Donna Bettencourt-Galvin.
Victoria Sousa died Monday. The Rhode Island Department of Health confirmed the child's autopsy results were inconclusive. Testing is underway to determine if the death is linked to the H1N1 flu virus. Health officials said those results could be available late Wednesday or sometime Thursday.
Vice Principal Jeff Moniz said Sousa was home sick from school, but she was not diagnosed with or treated for H1N1.
After receiving a notice from the school superintendent that the girl may have died from H1N1, Parents in the Portsmouth School District said they are concerned.
