Fundraiser for three boys' educations

NORTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (WPRI) - Friends held a fundraiser for the children of a woman killed in a crash on 295. Sheila Armstrong and Kayla Pine were both killed back on September 2 when their SUV rolled over. The children in the car were in car seats -- but the women weren't wearing seat belts, and were thrown from the vehicle.

Saturday, in North Kingstown at Cold Spring Community Center, there was a raffle to benefit Armstrong's three little boys. Her friends say they're hoping for a better future for the children.

"She worked so, so hard to provide for these children," said Armstrong's friend Laura Frazier, "so we're trying to come together to raise some money to put into a college fund, something Sheila never had the opportunity to do, but she always, always wanted to have that for her kids."

The raffle items were donated by local businesses.

Both Armstrong and Pine were single mothers, and their children are now being cared for by relatives.

A fundraiser for Pine's little boy, Jayden, was held September 16 at From The R.I.P. Poets Place in Pawtucket, with proceeds from a performance raising funds.
