NORTH ATTLEBORO, Mass. (WPRI) - Two public events are planned in honor of fallen North Attleboro Marine Capt. Kyle Van De Giesen.

Van De Giesen, a Marine pilot, was killed last Monday in a helicopter crash in Afghanistan. His body was returned to the U.S. last Thursday, along with 17 colleagues who were also killed that week.

A community candle light vigil is scheduled Thursday, Nov. 5 at 6:30 p.m. It will take place at Community Field on 43 South Washington St. If it rains, it will be held in North Attleboro High School's gym on Landry Ave.

Van De Giesen's funeral is set for 9 a.m. Friday, Nov. 6 at St. Mary's Church on Park St.

He leaves behind a pregnant wife, an 18-month-old daughter, his parents, two brothers and a sister.

He graduated North Attleboro High School in 1998, and St. Anselm College in 2002.
