JOHNSTON, R.I. (WPRI) - State Police have released new information on a deadly rollover crash on Route 295 that killed two mothers on September 1.
Investigators say 23-year-old Sheila Armstrong of Pawtucket, and 21-year-old Kayla Pine of West Warwick, were speeding to a doctor's appointment, when the crash happened on September 1. Both were pronounced dead at Rhode Island Hospital, according to police.
Three children in the vehicle, ages 2, 1, and 8 months, were all strapped in car seats at the time of the crash. They were not injured.
The Accident
According to State Police, Armstrong was driving the black SUV south on the 295 access road, when she tried to pass a vehicle on the left. Armstrong then lost control of the vehicle, which then skidded from the left lane all the way into the right lane, and into the grassy shoulder.
Police said the vehicle then entered a spin and rolled over, at which time the three adults inside were ejected.
