LITTLE COMPTON, R.I. (WPRI) - Curious onlookers have been gathering Friday afternoon in Little Compton to get a look at a giant whale floating in the water.
The giant mammal, which appears to be about 30-feet long, is sitting in Sakonnett Point Harbor, about 200 yards off the breakwater. It is anchored against a fishing net, though Little Compton's Harbor Master said it did not die in the net.
The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management said it has notified Mystic Aquarium in Connecticut. The carcas will not be moved until Mystic scientists perform autopsy.
