LINCOLN, R.I. (WPRI) - Police have identified the person killed Monday afternoon in a car crash on Route 295 in Lincoln as 19-year-old Kyle McLaughlin of Cumberland.

McLaughlin, a former hockey star at Cumberland High School , was driving in left lane when he lost control of his SUV near Route 146, state police confirmed. The vehicle then rolled over and McLaughlin was ejected. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said it does not appear McLaughlin was speeding, driving recklessly or using a cell phone. However, they said he was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash.

Cumberland High School has grief counselors on hand to help students cope with the death of their former classmate.
