(WPRI) - GE Healthcare released the following statement on lawsuits related to a certain dye used during MRIs:

We are concerned for the health of patients diagnosed with the condition known as Nephrogenic Systemic Fibrosis (NSF). We are committed to patient care and safety and to keeping our customers fully informed about how to use our products in the safest and most effective manner possible, in accordance with the FDA-approved label. The science is still evolving, but no definitive causal relationship between the administration of gadolinium-based contrast agents to patients with moderate to severe renal impairment and NSF has ever been found. We are continuing to study NSF and are working closely with global health authorities, including the FDA, and members of the medical community, in order to better understand the cause of this serious condition. For additional information, see the FDA's website.

With regard to your question about the number of lawsuits, I can tell you that there have been several hundred filed against all gadolinium-based contrast agent makers.
