PROVIDENCE, RI (WPRI) - Six people have been displaced following a fire in a multi-family home in Providence Wednesday night.

The fire broke out in the two-story home on Violet Street around 9 p.m. Deputy Fire Chief Timothy McDaniel said flames on the back of the building had spread from the first floor to the roof.

An eyewitness said he and a friend ran into the building and knocked on people's doors to get them out.

Chief McDaniel said there were no injuries. The Red Cross is assisting the residents.
