PROVIDENCE, ,R.I. (WPRI) - Law enforcement officials are cracking down on Craigslist. There are now 43 states including Rhode Island that have agreed to work with the website to eliminate ads for prostitution.

Craigslist and cops will be working hand in hand. If need be, to help trace, track down, and charge prostitutes. The new agreement was put in motion by the Connecticut Attorney General.

The deal will require people who post "erotic services ads" on craigslist to provide a working phone number and pay a fee with a valid credit card.

Then, if the website is ever subpoenaed, they'll give all that info to law enforcement. The agreement is also supported by Rhode Island Attorney General Patrick Lynch.

Craigslist will also begin using new "search technology," in an effort to help authorities find missing children and victims of human trafficking.
