TIVERTON, R.I. (WPRI) - Builders helping heroes is an organization that helps military families to turn their fixer upper into a breath taking home.
On Tuesday, the organization helped make a local army widow's dream become a reality.
Local dignitaries and others come together for a Veterans Day pledge of allegiance outside a newly renovated Tiverton home of the Potts family.
Terri Potts and her son lost their husband and dad, Christopher Potts in Iraq in 2004.
"We were doing little projects at a time as we could. When he got deployed it just kind of stopped, and now for them to come in and finish it up and to make what we started a reality, you know, it's very nice," says Terri Potts.
Because the Potts' dream house never came together after Christopher died volunteers helped make it a reality.
Builders helping heroes a nonprofit organization under the Rhode Island's Builder's Association revamped the home with the help and donations of many others. There is a new drainage system, a new deck and a new inside.
Work started on this home in December of 2005 but everyone involved tells Eyewitness News that it was all worth it.
