PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI)-- Young adults more than any other group are getting the flu this year, health officials said Friday.
As students return to school, health departments say students are at even greater risk of spreading the flu.
Brown University has already seen four confirmed cases of the flu on campus, Brown University Health Officials said. The university will continue to supply free flu shots for as long as there is a demand.
"We gave 3,000 flu vaccines and since the students have been back this week, we've probably given an additional 300-400," Monica Kunkel, Brown University Nursing Coordinator said.
In Rhode Island, around half a million people have been vaccinated for the flu. Despite the prevention, the Rhode Island Department of Health reports almost 500 people have been hospitalized.
