WEST WARWICK, R.I. (WPRI) - West Warwick residents will vote Thursday night on a revamped budget at the Financial Town Meeting.

The town council has presented two possible budgets and the taxpayers will cast their vote on one or the other. The spending plan is for the fiscal year beginning July 1st.

West Warwick town council President David Gosselin says he hopes there is a full house at the West Warwick High School Auditorium.

"This is not the type of thing that I want to leave up to a small group of 50 people that show up. I want to see a majority of the community there to make this decision." said Gosselin.

The budget proposal would mean a 4.75% increase in taxes, which would average out to about $200 more per household per year.

Gosselin says that if residents do not support the budget, additional cuts would affect the police department, schools, and human services programs.

The meeting begins at 7:00pm. The doors open at 6:00pm.
